Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G | design & performance

Flagship IMX766 camera with OIS 67W turbo charging 120Hz AMOLED display

The Note 12 Pro, without the “Plus” suffix in its name, stands as one of Redmi’s latest flagship offerings. With its £339 price tag, one might wonder if this phone, hailing from a sub-brand of Xiaomi, delivers subpar performance. However, read on to discover the unexpected ways in which it surprised me.

As of the time of writing, the Redmi Note 12 family boasts an extensive lineup, including:

– Redmi Note 12: Featuring a Snapdragon 685 processor and a 50MP lens.
– Redmi Note 12S: Powered by the MediaTek Helio G96 chipset and equipped with a 108MP sensor.
– Redmi Note 12 Pro: The focus of this review.
– Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus: Sporting a lengthy name and a massive 200MP sensor.

Furthermore, each model has its 5G variant, doubling the options available. While the Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus may seem to be at the far end of the spectrum, the 12 Pro isn’t actually that far behind.

Unboxing the Note 12 Pro

The Note 12 Pro arrives in a typical white box, akin to its Plus counterpart. Inside, you’ll find a familiar set of contents, including:

– A white USB to USB-C cable with orange accents.
– A lightweight 67W charger.
– A SIM-ejector tool.
– A snug, soft silicone case.
– Various paper inserts.

It’s worth noting the inclusion of the 67W charger, a surprising move in an era where Big Tech brands label 18W and 21W as “fast” charging. The silicone case, albeit not a perfect fit, serves its purpose well, providing elevation for both the cameras and the screen to prevent contact with surfaces.

Upon scrutinizing the spec sheet of the Redmi Note 12 Pro, one might find themselves underwhelmed. There’s no standout feature, with the 50MP main sensor being the closest contender. However, what’s truly surprising is what Redmi has managed to achieve with these specifications. Despite lacking raw power on paper, the phone delivers in practice, which ultimately holds more significance.
